One Who Teaches print:

Regular size (8 1/2" x 11"): $45 matted, $85 matted in brushed silver frame

"One who teaches another's child Torah is regarded by the tradition as one who gave birth to the child."

This verse from the Talmud expresses not only appreciation of teachers, but the depth of meaning that their involvement in a child's life has for the child. This attractive print, shown on left, is often given to teachers by schools, or families of B'nei Mitzvah, in either the form of a bookbag or a matted print. The bookbag is screen-printed in magenta and dark green on natural canvas. The print at bottom left is a Digital Custom Print on archival paper. A typeset dedication can be added in one line to the bottom of the print for $15. A dedication of up to three lines can be typeset on a small rectangle and affixed to the mat below the art for $20.

The design shown on the right is a matted, handpainted print. It is on acid-free paper with extra space for a dedication, if desired, which is handlettered for an additional $25.

Hamsas

I’m excited about this new line of hamsas that I’m working on. A hamsa is used in Mediterranean folklore to keep away the “ayin hara,” the evil eye. As a symbol for good luck, it is used in home decoration and in jewelry. These wall hangings are printed on canvas which is specially treated for our archival inks. The colors are vivid. What you see here was created as gifts for volunteers in a Hebrew school, hence the phrase “Yad b’yad,” “Hand in hand.” You can customize your hanging, with or without the words, or with different words.

We have some hangers for them, but have to find a new supplier for more. Once we’ve settled on a standard hanger, we’ll post a picture of them with the hanging hardware,

6 x 7.5” or 8 x 10” hamsa: $40
No customizing charge for image only with no words.

Baby Amulet

[baby amulet]

It's been a longstanding Jewish tradition to hang an amulet near a baby's bed, and Peggy's baby amulet is a popular baby gift. Its new design includes the blessings from the bris and naming ceremonies in Hebrew and English. The Hebrew blessings form the shape of the hand. The English translation, the Hebrew word "Shekhinah" (G-d's sheltering presence), the names of the four protective angels and qualities associated with them, surround the hand.

Jewish folk tradition has long used the hand shape among the Sephardim and the red color among the Ashkenazim to protect vulnerable individuals from the evil eye. The red illumination patterns (please click on the image to see the patterns in detail) come from medieval manuscripts. The amulet is printed by letterpress, which impresses the ink into the paper, giving the artwork a rich texture. The amulet is printed on a heavyweight, acid-free Mohawk Superfine paper stock and a red ribbon is included in the package. You may choose to attach the ribbon to the paper as a bow or to hang it on the wall, or to tie it on the baby's crib.

Many customers request a personalized amulet. The charge for handlettering, done in the upper right and left corners, is $25. It is done in red ink and can include any of the following: the child's English name, Hebrew name (name only or name +daughter/son of...), secular birth date, Hebrew birth date.

Baby Amulet, 10" x 13": $35. Please specify for a boy or a girl.
